I woke up at 10 am, and I saw that Sophia's message asking me to join their breakfast event: "Good morning, Woody! I just wanted to remind you about the free brunch at 10am in the Libra room today. I hope to see you there!" I freaked out. She never had done such a thing before. I knew that they had this event, but I didn't want to go there because I thought that there was nothing special for me. In addition, it was so Jewish, but her message changed my mind. "She probably likes me that she sent me such a message. Probably a few are going to go there today, and we will have some time to talk to each other," I thought to myself, and I decided to go there. I also wanted to have Micheal with me, but he didn't answer his phone.
I got there around 10:40 am. I was wrong. It was almost packed. More than 15 were there. I saw mother and father of the other girl whom was Sophia's friend. I was very shy. I don't know why I get such shy when I am around Sophia. I grabbed something, and I sat there, and I just listened to their conversation.
A middle-aged woman talked about her experienced. It was interesting to me. She talked about her son's fiance and the issues that she had with her in picking a good wedding cake. They had conflicts, and the father of that girl talked in a way to force her to explain more about her feelings toward her when he said, "Is his mother happy with their wedding? Anyway, I don't want to write about it. It was interesting because the same thing is in other cultures that the mother of somebody's husband has issues with her son's wife or fiance.
She also talked about some similarities between Judaism and Islam. She said that they believe that men are like animals and women have a very higher level of humanity, and for that reason women should cover their hair to prevent being annoyed by men. She said that she got surprised when she saw that Muslim women do the same for exactly the same reason.
She told us a story about a man who blind dated a Jewish person, and it didn't take to the second date. "Every marriage starts with the first date. I am Jewish, and I am not going to convert. We can't date," the man said to his blind date. I wanted to ask her about their beliefs about marring with other religions, but I thought that it may cause them thinking that I think about marring a Jewish girl (i.e. Sophia), and I didn't want this to happen. So, I didn't say anything. I like Sophia, but she is not the girl whom I marry. I didn't even want Sophia to think about it. I may date her. I may ask her to be my girlfriend one day, but I will never marry her (I don't know why).
In the middle of her talk, Sophia asked me if I needed a fork, and I declined. I figured out that she pays attention to me.
The father of that girl was a little nosy. He asked who is Jewish and who is not. The was only one another girl who wasn't Jewish. I said that. Then, I explained them why I try to be in such groups because I thought that he was curious. I told them that I would like to know more about other religions because I would like to have a better understanding from what I should believe and what I shouldn't. I talked for like five minutes. I told them the story of myself when I was a kid, and my mom didn't let me to buy a coke from a Jewish store. It really impressed them. I told them that I found Jewish people very nice and friendly. When I finished my speaking Sophia said, "respect. We all think that all you do deserves respect." I answered some of their questions about myself like my major. Sophia got surprised when I said that I came here two years ago, and I am a PhD student. "I didn't know that," she said. I also got surprised when Sophia said that she was in ATEC major. It seems that it is a pattern that pretty girls are in ATEC!
Before leaving her father had a short conversation with me, and he asked me some questions that I already answered them. I figured out that he didn't even listen to me. As a part of his saying he said, "you do research about religions on our behalf," and I didn't like it. He wanted to say that he appreciates my work, but in reality he disliked me doing this. I just wanted to be polite and I didn't to say anything about it.
I expect this event to be that good, but it was good. When I came back home, I wrote a message for Sophia: "Thank you for inviting me. I learned many things today."
And she answered: "I'm always glad to see you, Woody :) Thanks for being there!"
Kids, I think that she likes me. I didn't want to make her like me. I like her, but I would like to be with Ann or Alison or Talory more than Sophia. Sophia is too religious to be with me. I like faithful people, but I would like to be with someone more open-minded about religions.
